The Georgian Group is a statutory consultee in the planning system in
Wales, meaning that it is formally consulted on planning applications
affecting listed Georgian buildings in Wales.
Georgian Group Cymru, set up in 2003, informally coordinates the
Georgian Group's activities in the Principality. The Group's key representatives
on the ground are Michael Tree, a Welsh-born Trustee based in Conwy
County; and Janet Poole, our dedicated Wales caseworker.
Their primary day to day activity is statutory casework,
dealing in the first instance with incoming planning applications,
liaising with planning authorities and Cadw and undertaking site
visits. Our caseworker also coordinates responses to Welsh Assembly
consultation papers and directs national and local campaigns with other
amenity societies. As well as
publishing a newsletter, Georgian Group Cymru organises occasional
study days, lectures, primary research and visits to notable and/or
problem properties.
There is no separate membership of Georgian Group Cymru, but members of
the main Georgian Group who live in Wales are automatically informed of
Georgian Group Cymru activities, as are other members on request. The
activities of the Young Georgians in Wales are coordinated by Mark
Baker, Chairman of the Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust.
