The American Friends of the Georgian Group (AFGG) is a not-for-profit organisation that provides financial and other support to The Georgian Group in England.
The
AFGG has 501-C(3) tax status in the USA and since its inception has
made several grants to The Georgian Group for various purposes,
including improvements to 6 Fitzroy Square and contributions towards
the cost of employing caseworkers. Grants for research or repairs have
also been made to American foundations caring for Georgian period
houses in the United States.
A
programme of events is organised
for AFGG members, the centrepiece of which is an exclusive annual trip
to country houses in Britain. This special visit for a small interested
group of American Friends provides access to private houses of
particular architectural interest and, while expertly guided,
endeavours to retain the informal atmosphere of a country house party.
The 2007 trip, based at
luxurious Weston Park, took in a selection of the
great houses of Staffordshire and Shropshire. The 2008 trip, currently being arranged, is to Gloucestershire and will take place 6-10 October. See the link on the right for further details.
